The Boneyard Movie Review

Boneyard PosterA couple of cops and a psychic lady visit a morgue to ID some bodies and see if the psychic lady can gather any leads.  The morgue is placed under an old Chinese curse, and bodies that are dead in the Boneyard don’t stay dead very long. The highlight of the film is Phyllis Diller playing the crusty old bitch working night shift at the morgue.  She’s a real nasty piece of work and gets exactly what she deserves, her yappy little poodle does too.  I’ll get you old granny, and your little poodle too! Jersey the main cop of the film is a likeable character and seems like an all around stand up dude.  The other copper, the young one is a bit of a ponce and didn’t contribute much.

Big Baddaboom!  Lots of gore, lots of excellent quality vintage 80’s special effects.  The creatures of the morgue look great, these are some scary ass zombs! Children + undead + screaming bloody vengeance = terrifying!

If you watch this film and don’t dig these effects after reading this review, delete your account and never come back to this site again…you aren’t a horror fan.

Phyllis Ghoul

I’ve waited a long time to see this flick.  I could never find it on DVD anywhere.  Even when I owned a horror shop, I couldn’t get this flick on disc! Luckily the kind folks over at zip.ca had it in their inventory and sent it out to me.  Glad they did, this flick didn’t disappoint.  It was an enjoyable 80’s romp lead by Phillis Diller’s character (wigless for the first & only time in her career too) and her greasy poodle.  The Boneyard would be a great flick to watch on a movie night with a group of friends, it’s a fun film that doesn’t stray too far into campy territory.  Sure it has a giant geezer and poodle but they look vintage 80’s.

I dug this film.  It was a good time.  Quality story, characters and some bitchin’ special effects have this horror boy sold.  It’s a crime that The Boneyard is hard to find, it’s a goddamn cult classic and a little unburied gem for those that have yet to discover it! If you can get your mitts on it, give it a spin fiends!
