Skyline Movie Review

Genre: Sci-Fi / Thriller
Directors: Colin Strause, Greg Strause
Writers: Joshua Cordes, Liam O’Donnell
Stars: Eric Balfour, Donald Faison, and Scottie Thompson

Story

After a night of partying in Los Angeles with his very successful old friend, Jarrod (Eric Balfour) and his pregnant girlfriend Elaine (Scottie Thompson) wake up in his penthouse suite to bright lights flashing through the windows, within only a few moments it is clear to them that something is going on, and these strange lights are cast from UFO’s. These extra-terrestrials intentions are exterminating the human race off the planet.

Characters

Throughout the movie you get a good feel for the characters, as one of them will end up dying, they actually stop and care about the fact that their friend had gotten destroyed or abducted by an alien of some sort, rather than them continuing on and only caring for themselves, which is what I think would happen if events like this were to occur in real life
The actors were chosen well for this film, I enjoyed the acting throughout.

Gore/Special Effects

While there is very minimal gore in this movie, I felt that for the amount of special effects used, they were tolerable special effects. I usually can not tolerate CGI (Computer Generated Imagery), but I felt it was done well in this movie.

Final Head Count

Unfortunately, Skyline reminded me way too much of a mixture of the ‘Cloverfield’ and ‘War of the Worlds’. It was original in very few ways, but generally not a good movie because it has been done before so many times.

This film has a cheesy Hollywood ending and overall, I just didn’t enjoy this movie. I am generally interested in Aliens and Science Fiction, but this film didn’t deliver.

It appears this movie is open for a sequel, which I hope they never make.
