The Story

Written, directed, and starring Canadian comedian Rob Stefaniuk, Suck is equal parts comedy, and horror. The Winners are a crappy emo band who just can’t get the recognition they think they deserve, until one fateful night Jennifer, the bassist leaves a gig with Queeny a local vamp changing her and the bands success forever. Along the way the group, jealous of Jennifer’s new found popularity, asks to be turned also, but their leader Joey refuses the request. While Joey tries to deny his interest in being turned the temptation is overwhelming, and feeding that temptation in visions is none other than head vampire Alice Cooper! Unknown to the group, Queeny was being trailed by Eddie Van Helsing (Malcolm McDowell) and has decided to now follow the band on tour. Other cameo’s include Henry Rollins as radio DJ Rockin’ Roger, Moby as Beef the lead singer of Secretaries of Steak, Iggy Pop as studio engineer Victor, and Dave Foley as the The Winners faithless gig manager.

Effects/Gore

The movie while more comedy than horror still delivers some juicy bits. We get some great feeding scenes, and quality Vampire effects. When on tour the bands hearse, and environments are animated with miniatures.

Final Headcount:

I really liked Suck a lot. The music might not be of my usual taste, but I’m not going to pass any bias judgment based on that. The jokes worked for the most part, and so did the horror. Alice Cooper, and Malcolm McDowell steal the show with their supporting roles while the bands interaction with each other is reminiscent of films from the 80’s. Suck is an all around fun movie, and welcome addition to the Rock n Roll/Horror sub-genre.
