Horrorcrunk Or Die! (2010) Review

Since the year 2001, SKR’s Bloodshot has claimed the Horrorcore ‘sub genre’ Horrorcrunk.

You may ask what Horrorcrunk is, I find it to be a total attack of horror based lyrics with top quality club sounding instrumentals.

With ‘Horrorcrunk or Die!’, the sound of Horrorcrunk has been completely reconstructed, recreated, and put in place again.

The album features production by SickTanicK of SKR, Big Boy Beats, Le Chum, Freek Van Workum, and a guest feature by Memphis Legend AKA MC Mack of Kami Kaze Inc.

The album promised to deliver a reinvented version of the genre, that would please old school Bloodshot fans, as well as “open a brand new market for the innovator of the genre.”… It did just that.

When I first put the album in and heard the first track on it, I got the tingles, or the chills, whichever you may prefer to call it. In comparison to Bloodshot’s older albums, this one is definitely unique to say the least. The quality of the music on this album is a lot better than the other albums he has released, and the sound is definitely top notch.

Horrorcrunk or Die! could easily have some of Bloodshot’s greatest songs ever.

Like many of his older works, the album contains many songs dealing with famous horror movie characters, such as Freddy Krueger in the song Bloody’s Revenge, with lyrics about killing children/teenagers in their dreams, having claw hands, and also the chorus, very similar to the haunting ‘1, 2 Freddy’s Coming For You’ song off of the very popular movies.

And of course, besides tracks about killing, getting high, and violence in general, Bloodshot came out with a track about his personal life, This Is Now.

Discussing his past with the music, and how much it means to him now basically, and like most of his songs, it doesn’t disappoint.

Overall, this album impressed me more than I thought it would, after being disappointed with how long it took to ship from New Mexico to Regina, I have to say it was definitely worth the wait, and now that I’ve heard the album numerous times in just the day I received it in the mail, I must say I would have waited another two months and it would have been worth it.

Every track is worth listening to numerous times in one sitting if you’re a fan of the genre, this could EASILY be one of the greatest albums the underground has released in 2010!

I would love to review each song separately, but they’re all righteous tracks, and I think I’d end up saying just about that about each one of them…

With that being said. I’d say if you’re a fan of the genre, or a fan of rap music in general, pick up this album, you will NOT be disappointed, with Bloodshot’s excellent lyrics, voice, flow, and style, this album really proved to be as great as SickTanicK said it would be, no fan of the genre will be let down by this album, I assure you all of that.
