The Story:
Amateur filmmaker/obsessed horror fanatic Tyler is obsessed with the notorious gore fest “The Hills Run Red”. Years ago, shortly after the film’s release the film and the director disappeared. Tyler gathers his friends, plans a road trip hoping to find the lost film and visit it’s locations.
The Characters:
Tyler is easy to relate to as the hardcore horror junkie who is constantly defending the craft to those around him who just see the movies as cheap garbage. There is solid acting across the board, and a decent amount of development between the characters. Tyler’s girlfriend feels that the film has become more important than her, and his best friend tries to use that to his advantage. The killer “Baby Face” comes off as being a little smarter than your average mask wearing brute much to the dismay of his helpless victims.
Effects/Gore:
The gore is a mixture of physical, and CG effects. While it’s never disappointing, it probably would have cost less, and looked better if they stuck to physical effects only. Baby Face’s costume design with, or without the creepy porcelain doll face will have you begging for a sequel.
Lasting Appeal:
The Hills Run Red was a decent little slasher flick that, if given the chance I will probably watch again.
Final Headcount:
The movie begins with an exciting road trip through Blair Witch country, then swerves off into the woods to the familiar slasher stomping ground. The third act feels as though too many ideas were jammed in before the credits tying up every loose end leaving nothing to the imagination which is the The Hills Run Red’s biggest downfall.
